The Church was started in the year 1959 as a small prayer group with just 4 families by Pastor Philip Sastry. Even while serving the Indian Air Force at Avadi, Pastor Philip Shastry had a zeal for evangelism and after his duty hours used to preach the gospel to the Air Force friends. He then started a prayer group in his rented house behind the present ECI church near Avadi market. Br. T K Thomas and family, Br. Baby Mathews and family and Br. Zachariah attended the prayer group.

     Br. T K Thomas and family & Br. Baby P Mathews and family accepted the Lord as personal savior and they were baptized by Pastor Philip Sastry. Slowly the group grew in number, He shifted his house to a rented house near Dr. John Varghese compound and the prayer group continued to worship the Lord there. Dr John Varghese, seeing them gather in the house, offered some place in his large compound and asked him to make a thatched house and conduct the service there. A thatched hut was built there with the side walls and door all made of coconut leaves. After almost a year the Dr. asked them to wind up and pack all things and vacate the land. Pastor Philip Sastry then got transferred and he handed over the group to Br. T K Thomas asking him to lead the group. 

With no place to gather the few brothers were praying about it and looking for a new place. One day they passed by the present location and found people constructing thatched huts all around that place. 

     So, they enquired and found that the land was unclaimed land. So, they gathered there, prayed and decided to move the dismantled thatch there. The thatch was erected there, and the place was called House of Prayer. The gathering grew with new members from the Air Force and HVF. Fg/offr PV Thomas, Evg T P Abraham, Br. M M Varghese to mention a few. As the church grew the thatch was replaced with a single brick wall and tiled roofing. When tamil speaking believers joined the church the need for translation to Tamil was needed. Bro Baby Mathews used to translate the messages to Tamil.  For a couple of years Fg/Offr PV Thomas took charge of the church as Br. T K Thomas was transferred from Avadi to Assam.

     In the year 1968, Br. T K Thomas was boarded out from the Air Force due to heart problem and he returned and took charge of the church. As the church grew the brothers decided that the church should join some Pentecostal organization and approached IPC Kumbanad presbytery. They were happy to accept the church and Pastor K T Ittiyevara was posted as the first Pastor of IPC Pattabiram.

     A lot of new believers were added from in and around the church. Since the church is located near defence establishment many believers from defence services who stayed for 3-4 years and were transferred out. 

     The foundation stone for the present concrete building with parsonage on the first floor was laid by Pastor P M Philip who was the General Secretary of the IPC at Kumbanad, and the construction work began immediately. the building was then dedicated by Pastor M.S. Joseph who was the District Pastor of IPC Madras. Pastor Moncy Varghese was the Pastor of IPC Pattabiram then. 

     After Pastor Ittiyevara, the following Pastors have Pastored the church - Pastor K.C. John (Florida), Pastor Moncy Varghese, Pastor Raju John,

Pastor Sunny Alexander, Pastor Sam P Joseph, Pastor M.V. John,

Pastor Binu Thomas, Pastor Jose Pappachan, Pastor Abraham Thomas, Pastor Jose Prasad, Pastor P.U. Benny, Pastor Mathew P Thomas, Pastor Sabu C Thomas and Pastor Viju Antony(Present).
